I’m Josh Maddock, Director of Programs at Stand Down, an initiative of Faith Hope Love Charity. We serve all of Palm Beach County, Florida, which has a population larger than 10 states, and we are the leading provider of services to homeless veterans and their families in our area.
Our agency was started over 25 years ago by two formerly homeless veterans who wanted to make things better for their fellow veterans coming behind them. In 2000, they opened The Stand Down House, transitional housing for homeless single male veterans with mental health and substance abuse issues. By 2009, our co-founder and Executive Director Roy Foster was named a Top Ten International Hero with CNN. Since then, we’ve only grown, expanding our services to female veterans and veteran families.
We have a robust rapid rehousing program housing hundreds of households a year and a homeless prevention program that helps hundreds of households a year remain in their housing. We provide case management, financial assistance, housing navigation, legal services, health care navigation, and many other innovative solutions to housing sustainability for our veteran households.
The housing market is tight everywhere, but particularly so here in South Florida, and our veteran clients face many barriers. The Village of Valor is important to our efforts to end veteran homelessness in Palm Beach County. Our efforts and the Village of Valor.
